Your responsibilities
The Schanda group studies biological mechanisms at the molecular level by combining nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy with a host of other structural, biophysical, biochemical, in-silico and in-vivo methods. The group studies, for example, how mitochondria import their proteins or how enzymes function and are allosterically regulated. They also develop new NMR methods and isotope labelling techniques. We are looking for a proactive team member to support us with the following tasks:
- Developing and optimizing protein production protocols
- Producing protein samples (E. coli; cell-free; possibly yeast) for other group members, including isotope-labeled samples (2H, 13C, 15N, 19F). Part of the activity may comprise a more independent research project
- Taking a lead position in the lab organization (training users, managing stocks, ordering consumables, keeping our data base up to date)
- Being part of an interactive group of students, postdocs and technicians with diverse backgrounds, and being in contact with experts in the life science facilities
Your profile
- Completed studies in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or other relevant fields
- Experience in protein production and purification, using E. coli-based production
- Experience in characterizing proteins with biophysical and biochemical techniques
- Knowledge of yeast, insect or mammalian cell cultures and/or cell-free protein production is a plus
- Strong organizational skills, reliability and a sense for responsibility
- Proactive personality with a solution-oriented approach
